About the position

The Assistant Director of Finance at the Westin Hotel & Spa in Las Vegas is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the accounting operations within the hotel. This position ensures that all financial reporting is accurate, timely, and consistent, adhering to the established policies and procedures, as well as GAAP and relevant federal, state, and local regulations. The Assistant Director of Finance will work closely with the Controller to maintain control over the hotel's income, expenses, assets, and liabilities. This role encompasses the daily operations of Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Income Journal, General Cashiering, Taxes, and internal controls, with the potential to recommend and implement operational changes to enhance efficiency and compliance. In this role, the Assistant Director of Finance will supervise a team that includes Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cashier, and Night Audit employees. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, developing, and empowering staff, as well as conducting performance reviews and resolving any issues that arise. The position requires a thorough analysis and reconciliation of all general ledger accounts and bank statements to ensure the accuracy of financial information. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Finance will prepare financial statements and reports, assist in the annual budget compilation, and ensure compliance with financial and cash controls across departments. The role also involves analyzing tenant leases and ensuring compliance with hotel leases and management contracts. In the absence of the Controller, the Assistant Director of Finance will assume their responsibilities, making this a critical leadership position within the hotel's financial operations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cashier, and Night Audit employees.
  • Interview, recommend hiring, train, develop, empower, schedule, coach and counsel staff.
  • Conduct performance and salary reviews, resolve problems, and provide open communications.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs, LSOPs, GAAP, and all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Analyze and reconcile all general ledger accounts and bank statements.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports for management.
  • Assist in the compilation and preparation of the annual budget, forecasts, and taxes.
  • Train and monitor the implementation of financial and cash controls across departments.
  • Resolve problems and maintain accounting systems and equipment.
  • Analyze tenant leases and ensure compliance with hotel leases and management contracts.
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Controller in their absence.

Requirements

  • 2 - 4 years of hotel accounting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Knowledge of all functions performed by subordinate staff reporting to the Hotel Controller.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting, finance, and hospitality professions.
  • Experiential knowledge for management of people and complex problems.
  • Ability to analyze activities or information involving original data manipulation or interpretation.
  • Ability to make decisions guided by established policies and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills to provide information and services.
