About the position

The Assistant Director of Finance provides complex administrative support to the Director of Finance while supervising accounting professional staff. This role involves overseeing various accounting, finance, and budget functions, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and contributing to the development and implementation of departmental goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

• Supervise accounting professional staff and oversee their work activities.
• Participate in the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, policies, and priorities.
• Coordinate the compilation of financial statements for the City's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
• Assist contracted staff during the auditing process and oversee the preparation of final reports.
• Oversee the compilation and preparation of the budget and five-year capital plan.
• Administer the City's budget and budget amendment process, including analysis of appropriations, expenditures, and revenue.
• Monitor and reconcile the fixed asset inventory and related accounting data.
• Research and resolve accounting, general ledger, or budget issues for departments.
• Perform internal audits and oversee the preparation, processing, and audit of banking transactions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
• Six or more years of professional accounting and financial experience, including supervisory experience.
• CPA, CIA, CFE, CGFO, or similar certification preferred.
• Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
