About the position

The Assistant Director of Financial Services at The Arc of Somerset County plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of the organization. This full-time position is based in Manville, NJ, and requires a Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting along with two years of relevant experience. The Assistant Director will provide direct supervision and guidance to the assigned finance staff, ensuring that the workload is managed effectively and that all financial processes are executed in a timely and accurate manner. In the absence of the Director of Finance, the Assistant Director will assume necessary duties to maintain the department's operations. The role involves managing day-to-day activities related to cash receipts, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. The Assistant Director will assist the Director of Finance in establishing and modifying accounting systems, including internal controls, and will support financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, and audits. A key responsibility includes monitoring the accounts payable process to ensure timely approvals and accurate entries into the accounting records. The Assistant Director will also oversee the Agency Payeeship program and manage the annual Consumer Rent Subsidy renewal process, acting as a liaison with consumer bank accounts and ensuring compliance with all financial regulations. Additionally, the Assistant Director will be responsible for the annual Agency Rental Subsidy submission to HUD and will oversee the handling of the General Ledger Account for the main Arc of Somerset County non-profit corporation and its subsidiaries. This position requires strong analytical skills to prepare reports and provide information for special requests, supporting the Director of Finance with monthly reporting to the Board of Directors and the Foundation Board of Trustees. Maintaining accurate files and reports to back up financial transactions is also a critical aspect of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and guidance to assigned Finance Staff.
  • Oversee the workload of subordinates, including follow-up and scheduling of assignments.
  • Assume duties of the Director of Finance during their absence to ensure departmental operations continue smoothly.
  • Manage day-to-day activities in cash receipts, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Assist the Director of Finance in establishing and modifying accounting systems and internal controls.
  • Support financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, and audits as needed.
  • Monitor the Accounts Payable processing for timely and accurate entries into the accounting records.
  • Supervise all aspects of The Agency Payeeship program, including monthly submissions to the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD).
  • Direct responsibility for the Annual Consumer Rent Subsidy renewal process.
  • Act as a liaison with Consumer bank accounts for all Residential Consumer and Program accounts.
  • Oversee the Annual Agency Rental Subsidy Submission to HUD.
  • Ensure correct handling of the General Ledger Account for the main Arc of Somerset County non-profit corporation and subsidiary corporations.
  • Assist in the year-end closing of all Arc accountings and preparation for annual CPA audits.
  • Analyze data and prepare reports on a scheduled basis for assigned areas and special requests as needed.
  • Support the Director of Finance with monthly reporting requirements to the Board of Directors and the Foundation Board of Trustees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or accounting.
  • Two years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Some supervisory experience is required.
  • CPA certification is preferred.
