About the position

This position is located in the District Attorney's Office and is intended to fill full-time, grant-funded, temporary, and part-time roles. The purpose of this classification is to provide legal counsel to assigned departments, boards, elected officials, and employees. Incumbents are expected to function with significant autonomy, representing the interests of Fulton County-related clients with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as counsel in representing the legal interest of the County for assigned departments in accordance with state and federal laws and rules of professional conduct.
  • Provide legal advice to represented clients and other department heads, elected officials, or managers as requested or assigned.
  • Attend meetings and assess the nature of the legal issues presented.
  • Research and analyze internal regulations, policies, and procedures or relevant state and federal law.
  • Advise clients of legal solutions and execution of appropriate steps and implementation.
  • Manage litigation for assigned county-related departments, including preparing and responding to discovery requests and motions.
  • Draft and review contracts and agreements for compliance with internal policies and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal laws.
  • Represent assigned department in personnel matters and attend Personnel Board hearings.
  • Represent the County in tax appeals and prepare for mediations, arbitrations, and hearings.
  • Develop and review legislation, providing advice and direction to County officials and departments.
  • Maintain a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Process a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations.
  • Operate various equipment and supplies to complete work assignments.
  • Communicate with County officials, supervisor, other employees, clients, court personnel, and the public as needed.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate Degree required.
  • Three (3) years of experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Must hold an active membership in good standing with any State Bar Association.
  • Must obtain active membership with the Georgia State Bar Association within one year of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred three (3) years barred experience.
