About the position

The Assistant Facility & Maintenance Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of the Ronald McDonald House® Charities New York Metro. This position involves a variety of responsibilities including repairing, troubleshooting, inspecting, and completing service requests, as well as overseeing preventive maintenance in an efficient and timely manner. The individual in this role will report directly to the Director of Operations and will be integral in advancing the mission of the Chapter, which has been dedicated to providing excellent quality services to families in crisis since 1986. In collaboration with the facilities team, the Assistant Facility & Maintenance Manager will be responsible for installing, refurbishing, and coordinating the upkeep of the House and its programs. This includes ensuring that all supplies meet health and safety standards, inspecting the building and rooms, and determining the need for repairs or renovations. The role requires a proactive approach to maintenance, with a focus on communication and teamwork among various staff members, including the Family Services Team and volunteers. The position also entails maintaining safety and security policies, including fire safety training for staff, and ensuring that all maintenance activities are documented properly. The Assistant Facility & Maintenance Manager will interface with subcontractors and vendors for specialty work and repairs, and will also be involved in various other duties related to Chapter business, such as housekeeping, event setup, and snow removal. This multifaceted role requires a strong commitment to service and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the day-to-day maintenance of the facility consistent with the policies initiated by the Board and implemented by all Chapter staff.
  • Complete work orders, repair plumbing, electric, mechanical, carpentry and various types of equipment repairs in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain proper scheduling of assigned duties and obtain materials to perform cost-effective maintenance and repair activity.
  • Keep lines of communication open among the House, Family Services Team, Family Room Manager, Director of Operations, COO, other staff and volunteers.
  • Report to the Director of Operations items affecting (or potentially affecting) proper and safe operation of equipment.
  • Prioritize assigned maintenance work to properly execute emergency breakdown response.
  • Maintain proper documentation of all assigned maintenance policies, procedures and schematics.
  • Maintain safety and security policies and procedures including fire safety training for staff, approved and certified Fire Director.
  • Maintain an acceptable log of planned and executed maintenance activity.
  • Execute other Chapter responsibilities as requested by the Director of Operations and Chief Operating Officer.
  • Interface with subcontractors, vendors, and others on specialty work and repairs.
  • Keep all storage areas, basement, and workshop area clean.
  • Perform other duties related to Chapter business as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in a related field.
  • Knowledgeable in the following trades: Mechanical, Plumbing, HVAC, Carpentry and Electrical.
  • General building skills: painting, drywall, caulk, etc.
  • IT/AV Team lead, must be tech savvy.
  • Self-directed and able to successfully complete projects assigned with a minimum of supervision.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to work in a flexible, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet frequent deadlines, and be self-disciplined.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Suite.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and experience driving a larger vehicle.
