About the position

The Assistant Manager of Social Services plays a crucial role in supporting the Manager or Director of Social Services by overseeing the daily operations of the Social Services department or specific programs within a Home Health or hospice setting. This position is responsible for managing social service programs, providing clinical and administrative supervision to licensed social workers, and developing budgets and service plans. The Assistant Manager will implement quality management and improvement programs, as well as develop and enforce policies, procedures, and clinical standards for social services. In this role, the Assistant Manager will assist in planning, developing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating social services policies and procedures. They will be involved in the delivery of social work programs and services, ensuring quality management and fiscal responsibility while planning patient and community services. The Assistant Manager will manage staff across multiple departments and locations, ensuring their competencies and providing clinical leadership and supervision. The position also requires the development and monitoring of quality management programs for social services, assessing staff development needs, and presenting educational services that support high-quality social work delivery. Additionally, the Assistant Manager will manage departmental budgets, identify opportunities for service improvement, and collaborate with human resources to resolve employee performance issues. They will also participate in grant proposal development, identify community resources, and collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance service delivery and compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Department Director or Manager in planning, developing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating social services policies and procedures.
  • Deliver social work programs and services effectively.
  • Manage quality and fiscal management of social services and patient/community planning services.
  • Oversee staff management, including those deployed to multiple departments and locations.
  • Ensure staff competencies and provide clinical leadership and supervision.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor quality management programs for social services.
  • Assess and analyze staff development needs and provide educational services.
  • Manage departmental budget and costs, identifying opportunities for improvement and cost reduction.
  • Collaborate with human resources to resolve employee performance issues and manage labor relations.
  • Address safety and risk management issues at a first level basis.
  • Analyze and implement appropriate staffing levels and skill-mix.
  • Recommend and develop new programs to enhance quality of care for specialized patient populations.
  • Participate in writing and developing grant proposals.
  • Identify community resources and collaborate with organizations to enhance services.
  • Consult with medical center physician chiefs and departmental managers on psycho-social matters and service needs.
  • Identify service delivery issues and develop techniques to resolve them.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, local, and state regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years of clinical social work experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of management experience.
  • Masters degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (California) required at hire.
  • National Provider Identifier required at hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize knowledge of fiscal and program management principles.
  • Knowledge of social services treatment/delivery issues and theories of human development.

Nice-to-haves

  • One (1) year in social work supervision in an acute hospital setting.
