About the position

The Assistant Nurse Manager plays a crucial role in the direction and coordination of nursing care within a specific patient care area. This position is designed to support the nursing staff and ensure that high standards of care are maintained. The Assistant Nurse Manager will collaborate closely with the Leadership Team to assess, evaluate, and plan for nursing care in the clinical area. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including participating in the hiring and evaluation of nursing staff, setting and maintaining standards of nursing care and practice, and coordinating services for patients. Additionally, the Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for fostering the professional growth of staff through clinical coaching and support at the bedside. In this position, the Assistant Nurse Manager shares joint responsibility for the outcomes of the unit, which includes patient satisfaction, employee engagement, and fiscal responsibility. The role requires a proactive approach to leadership, ensuring that the nursing team is well-supported and that patient care is delivered effectively and efficiently. The Assistant Nurse Manager will also be involved in the continuous improvement of nursing practices and will be expected to stay current with best practices in nursing care.

Responsibilities

  • Support the direction and coordination of nursing care for a specific patient care area.
  • Collaborate in the assessment, evaluation, and planning for nursing care in the clinical area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required; Master's preferred.
  • Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State required.
  • Certification in specialty preferred or active involvement with completion within twelve (12) months.
  • AHA-BLS certification required; current non-AHA-BLS card will be honored up to date of renewal.
  • Demonstrates leadership with good oral and written communication skills.
  • Current ACLS certification and completion of a critical care course within 2 months required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years relevant clinical experience required, as determined by the Associate Vice President or Vice President.
  • Specific experience per unit criteria preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and various healthcare management systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a leadership role within a clinical setting.
  • Familiarity with quality/risk management systems and electronic medical records.
  • Experience with automated medication dispensing systems.
