About the position

Washburn University is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor in Criminal Justice and Legal Studies for a full-time, tenure-track position. The role is focused on teaching and developing undergraduate and graduate courses, advising students, and engaging in service activities. The position emphasizes a commitment to inclusive teaching practices and aims to prepare students for careers in law enforcement, corrections, and legal fields. The appointment can begin in January or August 2025, depending on the candidate's availability.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 12 credit hours per semester or a full workload as defined by the faculty handbook.
  • Teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses in various modalities (e.g., online, hybrid, face-to-face, Zoom).
  • Advise students and maintain on-campus office hours in accordance with university policy.
  • Attend meetings and engage in service activities within the department, school, university, profession, and community.
  • Fulfill expectations associated with a tenure-track appointment for teaching, service, and scholarship.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • PhD or ABD in Criminal Justice or a closely related field from an accredited institution; or JD from an accredited institution. ABD candidates must complete their PhD by August 1, 2026.
  • Demonstrated dedication to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage students from all backgrounds.
  • Official transcripts will be required upon hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Post-secondary teaching experience in criminal justice and/or professional settings.
  • Experience working in the criminal justice field.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity.
