About the position

Cavco Elkhart Regional Office (formerly Commodore Homes LLC), located in Elkhart IN is searching for an Assistant Product Designer to join us in developing real, workable solutions based on innovation. The Assistant Product Designer will work alongside the Corporate Home Design & Development Designer and will have a strong knowledge of conceptual design, building codes, and structural detailing. We're seeking someone with the passion of an artist and an array of strong technical CAD and construction knowledge. The designer must be able to visualize a concept and bring the vision to life as a complete building structure or component. The ideal candidate must be willing to collaborate with other team members to complete product tasks and meet task deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing, documenting, and executing innovative new products by collaborating with internal and external teams.
  • Maintain close working relationships with a team that includes product designers, interior designers, engineers, sales managers, and plant managers.
  • Cultivate knowledge of building products, construction details, regulations, specification standards, and timelines.
  • Adhere to local and state code regulations and industry standards (hud) for design and construction, while also paying attention to innovative trends and architectural advancements that can be created in a factory-built home.
  • Assist in creating floor plan designs, renderings, and detailed drawings with computer-aided design (CAD) applications.
  • Maintain current product offerings by revising and updating existing products as specifications and trends change.
  • Manage model numbering and description of new projects and maintain the files of current and discontinued projects.
  • Advance in knowledge of computer-aided renderings and 3D images.
  • Assist in developing product aids such as 3d drawings and detailed elevations.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of experience in architectural detailing, design, or equivalent degree.
  • Knowledge of building materials and experience with building codes, ADA compliance, and other laws applicable to design and construction.
  • Three or more years of working knowledge of CAD applications or equivalent.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • A strong desire to be a leader in home innovation and design.
