About the position

The Assistant Professor of Architecture at Florida Southern College is a tenure-track-eligible position aimed at enhancing the national and international recognition of the School of Architecture. The role involves teaching, scholarship, and service, with a focus on applying Frank Lloyd Wright's design principles to modern architectural practice. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a new Bachelor of Architecture program and future postgraduate offerings, while fostering a collaborative culture within the institution and its communities.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in the School of Architecture
  • Advise and mentor students to promote student success
  • Develop and maintain a robust program of scholarly and creative work within the discipline
  • Incorporate scholarly and creative activities into the teaching environment including student-faculty collaborative scholarship
  • Engage in service to the School, the College, the profession, and the community
  • Participate in curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and program assessment
  • Participate in faculty governance through service on program, School, and College committees
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of qualified faculty, staff, and mentors
  • Participate in the recruitment and admission of students
  • Serve as a liaison and ambassador to engage professional practice and industry partners
  • Support the learning needs and success of students from diverse backgrounds
  • Collaborate within and across departments and Schools to promote the vision and goals of the College
  • Participate in initial and ongoing accreditation processes at the School and College level
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Architecture

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in architecture (March, DArch, or PhD) from a regionally accredited institution
  • Professional architectural licensure
  • Three years of professional practice in architecture
  • Three years of successful teaching experience at the university or college level
  • Scholarship and creative accomplishments in the field of design
  • Ability to teach advanced design studio, lecture, and seminar courses
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, graphic, and oral communication skills
  • Skills and experience in the use of digital tools in architectural design and construction
  • Integration of artificial intelligence in design applications
