About the position

The University of Pennsylvania's Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy is seeking candidates for several Assistant Professor positions in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. The role focuses on bioethics, particularly ethical issues related to genetic and genomic medicine and health equity. Candidates will engage in teaching, mentoring, and establishing independent research programs, contributing to the department's mission and enhancing its instructional and research capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a high-impact research program including extramurally funded projects.
  • Teach courses in the Master of Bioethics program.
  • Mentor diverse graduate students, medical students, residents, clinical fellows, undergraduates, and postdoctoral trainees.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members, staff, and students to contribute to the Department's mission.
  • Publish research in leading peer-reviewed journals.

Requirements

  • M.D., Ph.D., J.D. or equivalent degree(s).
  • Expertise in bioethics, with a focus on genetic and genomic medicine and health equity.
  • Experience with empirical bioethics methods, either quantitative or qualitative.

Nice-to-haves

  • Background in philosophy, anthropology, sociology, political science, law, medicine, theology, or medical humanities.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary methods.
