About the position

The Assistant Professor of Practice in Lighting, Sound Design & Technology at Western Carolina University is a full-time, fixed-term faculty position focused on teaching and mentoring students in the areas of lighting and sound design for theatre and television. The role involves a 3/3 teaching load, with additional responsibilities for designing or mentoring lighting and sound for the School of Stage and Screen's MainStage season. The position is set to begin in August 2024 and is based on the Cullowhee, NC campus.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in lighting and sound design and technology, as well as general theatre courses as needed.
• Design or mentor lighting and sound for the School of Stage and Screen MainStage season, including television lighting.
• Manage a teaching load of 3 courses per semester with releases for design work.

Requirements

• MFA in theatrical design with concentrations in Lighting, Sound, or Projections.

Nice-to-haves

• Ability to teach and design in all three areas of Lighting, Sound, and Projections.
