About the position

The Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer serves as a key support to the Resident Maintenance Engineer in organizing, planning, and coordinating the activities of a county maintenance unit. This role ensures that the unit operates effectively and efficiently during both normal and emergency operations. Responsibilities include managing the maintenance contract process, which involves preparing quantities, inspecting contract work, and processing payments for various contracts such as routine mowing, brush management, herbicide operations, and concrete repair. The Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer also assists in the creation and implementation of the county Business Plan and supervises the coordination of maintenance plans to meet the unit's business goals. Additionally, this position is responsible for personnel matters, including Employee Performance Management System (EPMS) reviews, position description updates, disciplinary actions, and other personnel procedures. The role includes supervising the encroachment permit process and various inspection activities to meet engineering directives for all county roads. The Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer aids in researching data and providing technical assistance for budget reports, resurfacing, and other programs, as well as investigating public complaints and damage claims, recommending corrective actions, and ensuring their completion. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management.
  • Three years of engineering or construction management work experience, or an approved acceptable equivalence.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license.
