About the position

The Assistant State Auditor position at the State Auditor's Office (SAO) offers an excellent opportunity for innovators to join in the search for new ideas to ensure audits are relevant and provide value to the governments audited. The role is part of a team that conducts various local government audits, including accountability, financial statement, and federal grant compliance audits, primarily in Pierce County. Responsibilities

  • Conduct audits of local governments to ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Participate in planning and conducting audits under supervision.
  • Engage in client discussions and presentations.
  • Review work and provide mentoring to in-training level staff.
  • Support the agency's mission and values through professional conduct.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three college-level accounting courses, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in accounting/auditing for Assistant State Auditor 1.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in accounting/auditing for Assistant State Auditor 2.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in accounting/auditing for Assistant State Auditor 3.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Time/project management skills.
  • Understanding of accounting concepts/principles as they relate to auditing.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Government audit experience preferred.
