About the position

The Assistant Teaching Professor of Counselor Education at North Carolina State University is a full-time, permanent position focused on preparing and teaching graduate-level courses in counselor education. The role emphasizes clinical coordination for various master's and doctoral programs, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, and fostering an inclusive learning environment. The professor will engage in teaching, advising, and mentoring students while contributing to the department's research and outreach efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach on-campus and online graduate counselor education classes, particularly clinical courses.
  • Serve as on-campus clinical coordinator for three master's programs: clinical mental health counseling, college counseling, and school counseling.
  • Coordinate clinical experiences for doctoral students in counseling and counselor education.
  • Conduct site supervisor training for practicum and internship orientations.
  • Maintain communication with faculty advisors, site supervisors, and students regarding clinical processes.
  • Ensure compliance with CACREP, NCATE, NCDPI, and Graduate School standards for the clinical program.
  • Create and maintain a database of clinical sites for student placements.
  • Advise and mentor students in the counselor education program.
  • Serve on counselor education dissertation committees.
  • Participate in recruitment and selection of future Counselor Education graduate students.

Requirements

  • Doctoral Degree in Counselor Education or a closely related area by July 30, 2025.
  • Evidence of effective teaching, advising, and supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to using emerging technology in teaching and research.
  • Professional experience in counseling and understanding of the changing nature of counseling and counselor education.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctoral degree from a CACREP-accredited program.
