About the position

The Associate, Compensation & Benefits Tax position at Alvarez & Marsal involves working within a consulting practice to advise corporate boards and executives on compensation matters. The role focuses on benchmarking compensation, designing incentive awards, and navigating regulatory requirements, particularly in the context of mergers and acquisitions. Associates will also engage in research and analysis to support clients in making informed compensation decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Benchmark compensation and develop reports to support compensation recommendations for C-suite executives and Board of Directors.
  • Design long-term incentive awards considering tax, accounting, and regulatory ramifications.
  • Work on mergers and acquisitions, performing complex calculations for target companies and their executives.
  • Develop retention and incentive arrangements for companies undergoing restructuring.
  • Research emerging issues such as tax reform legislation and new SEC requirements to keep clients informed.
  • Prepare tax calculations and analyses/models to assist clients in compensation decisions and compliance.
  • Draft technical memorandums and letters related to compensation & benefits issues.
  • Assist with marketing initiatives by writing articles, preparing pitch decks, researching targets, and developing presentations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in client meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Advanced degree preferred (Masters in Accounting/Finance/Tax, JD/LL.M. (tax), or CPA in progress).
  • Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, or Business Management degrees also considered.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • High proficiency in spreadsheets.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • High motivation to learn and grow.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in tax consulting or compensation analysis.
  • Familiarity with SEC regulations and compliance issues.
