About the position

The Associate in Compensation & Benefits Tax at Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) will work with a team to advise companies on qualified retirement plan issues, executive compensation, and various compensation and benefits matters. This role involves completing complex tax projects, providing tax analysis and modeling, and conducting tax research and writing. The position offers opportunities for professional growth and development while contributing to solving clients' complex problems.

Responsibilities

• Interpreting and applying laws, regulations, judicial precedent and other guidance
• Drafting technical memorandums and letters related to compensation & benefits issues
• Researching emerging issues such as Tax Reform and new SEC requirements
• Aggregating data in Excel for complex nondiscrimination testing for qualified retirement plans
• Identifying compliance issues in qualified retirement plans and drafting submissions for IRS and DOL correction programs
• Reviewing executive compensation plans for compliance with Internal Revenue Code and SEC requirements
• Benchmarking compensation against market data and developing reports
• Assisting in the design of annual long-term incentive awards considering tax and regulatory ramifications
• Working on M&A transactions, including tax and HR calculations
• Assisting with marketing initiatives by writing articles and preparing presentations

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required
• Advanced degree preferred: Masters in Accounting/Finance/Tax, JD, or LL.M. (tax)
• CPA (or in the process of pursuing) is a plus
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong analytical skills
• High proficiency in spreadsheets
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
• High motivation to learn and grow
