About the position

The Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Toledo Museum of Art is responsible for overseeing the stewardship of the museum's modern and contemporary art collection. This role involves shaping and leading the museum's modern and contemporary art program, ensuring it aligns with the institution's mission of equity and inclusion. The ideal candidate will have a strong curatorial background, a network within the museum field, and a passion for engaging diverse audiences with modern and contemporary art.

Responsibilities

• Implement the modern and contemporary art program, providing creative direction and curatorial expertise.
• Support the Museum's program of Modern and Contemporary acquisitions, exhibitions, and innovative gallery displays.
• Conceptualize, plan, and execute compelling exhibitions that reflect diverse artistic practices and themes.
• Identify and acquire significant artworks to enhance the modern and contemporary art collection.
• Conduct in-depth research on artists and art movements, contributing to scholarly publications.
• Cultivate relationships with artists, collectors, and cultural institutions for collaborations and acquisitions.
• Develop engaging educational programs and public events related to modern and contemporary art.

Requirements

• Master's degree in art history or related field; Ph.D. preferred.
• 3-5 years of curatorial and collections experience; 2 years in a museum setting.
• Specialized knowledge of modern and contemporary art with direct curatorial experience.
• Strong analytical skills and experience in realizing complex projects.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
