The position requires collaboration with faculty and senior administrators to create proposals and reports, and it includes strategic planning, proposal development, and administrative duties.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of foundation relationships for long-term growth.
  • Develop and implement strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with private foundations.
  • Communicate with faculty and administrators about ongoing projects and funding needs.
  • Analyze foundation interests and assess opportunities for alignment with university priorities.
  • Create timelines and deadlines for proposal development according to foundation guidelines.
  • Collaborate with development staff and research administration to ensure compliance with foundation requirements.
  • Help develop organizational fundraising strategies that meet university needs.
  • Edit and write letters of inquiry and proposals focusing on solicitations in the $100K - $1M range.
  • Arrange and staff visits between foundation representatives and university faculty.
  • Serve as the point person for communication between faculty and foundation staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 4 years of experience in an academic unit, industry, or private foundation setting.
  • Excellent persuasive writing skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, analytically, and creatively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate degree.
  • Experience providing a global organizational perspective with knowledge of multiple units.
  • Specialized knowledge or experience in pursuing funding for academic fields.
