About the position
The Associate Director of Foundation Relations at Northwestern University is responsible for managing a portfolio of foundation relationships to foster long-term growth. This role involves developing and implementing strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with private foundations, ensuring alignment with university priorities. The position requires collaboration with faculty and senior administrators to create proposals and reports, and it includes strategic planning, proposal development, and administrative duties.
Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of foundation relationships for long-term growth.
- Develop and implement strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with private foundations.
- Communicate with faculty and administrators about ongoing projects and funding needs.
- Analyze foundation interests and assess opportunities for alignment with university priorities.
- Create timelines and deadlines for proposal development according to foundation guidelines.
- Collaborate with development staff and research administration to ensure compliance with foundation requirements.
- Help develop organizational fundraising strategies that meet university needs.
- Edit and write letters of inquiry and proposals focusing on solicitations in the $100K - $1M range.
- Arrange and staff visits between foundation representatives and university faculty.
- Serve as the point person for communication between faculty and foundation staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- 4 years of experience in an academic unit, industry, or private foundation setting.
- Excellent persuasive writing skills.
- Ability to think strategically, analytically, and creatively.
