About the position

The Associate Director of Budget and Finance manages the financial processes and budgets for the Tulane School of Social Work (TSSW). This position directs the annual budget process for the school and supports the Dean and the Assistant Dean with the oversight of all financial needs and operational initiatives at TSSW. This includes the development of the annual budget and reforecast, the creation of multiyear budget plans, cost/strategy recommendations, quarterly budget variance reporting, analysis of financial results and all other regulatory compliance, inclusive of sponsored fund accounts. The Associate Director provides an advanced level of financial analysis and projections in the daily management of the financial operations of the school, including accounting, payroll, and accounts payable process all in accordance with University's fiscal guidelines. This position reports directly to the Assistant Dean of Finance & Operations. This position works with the Dean on strategic budget planning and initiatives and implementation toward TSSW mission and strategic transformation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the financial processes and budgets for the Tulane School of Social Work (TSSW).
  • Direct the annual budget process for the school.
  • Support the Dean and the Assistant Dean with oversight of all financial needs and operational initiatives.
  • Develop the annual budget and reforecast.
  • Create multiyear budget plans and provide cost/strategy recommendations.
  • Conduct quarterly budget variance reporting and analysis of financial results.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, including sponsored fund accounts.
  • Provide advanced financial analysis and projections for daily management of financial operations.
  • Oversee accounting, payroll, and accounts payable processes in accordance with University's fiscal guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Dean on strategic budget planning and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Ability to prepare financial reports and forecasts and form data-based solutions.
  • Ability to translate information to non-financial personnel.
  • Strong analytical and research abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with individuals internal and external to the organization.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Proficiency in Excel and tools used in analysis and statistical design.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 4 years of related experience.
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
