About the position

The Associate Director of Stewardship will play a critical role in fostering strong relationships with Whittier donors ensuring their ongoing engagement with our mission. This position will deepen connections with our donor community and ensuring they see the impact of their support. The chosen candidate will develop and implement innovative strategies for donor recognition, reporting, and communication to enhance donor loyalty and retention.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a stewardship strategy that aligns with Whittier's goals and enhances donor engagement.
  • Manage an acknowledgement matrix, ensuring every donor is properly acknowledged for their support.
  • Develop personalized stewardship plans for major donors, including tailored programs, communication materials, newsletters, impact reports, and thank-you messages.
  • Oversee recognition initiatives such as donor walls, annual reports, and special recognition events, donor appreciation days, and behind-the-scenes tours that honor donor contributions, and showcase Whittier's success.
  • Prepare and maintain a strategic annual plan to ensure ongoing and meaningful donor acknowledgement program.
  • Prepare and maintain a database of compelling narratives highlighting the use of funds, acknowledging philanthropic impact and the outcomes achieved.
  • Prepare and deliver personalized major donor impact reports for each endowment, fellowship and scholarship donor which highlights and acknowledges the impact of the donor gift/endowment, overall gifts and endowment investment results to Whittier College.
  • Work closely with the Development division to integrate stewardship efforts into overall fundraising strategies.
  • Share impact stories and other collateral with gift officers ensuring they have the tools necessary to properly and regularly acknowledge donor impact.
  • Interpret data from Finance and Financial Aid Offices, maintain accurate donor records and track stewardship activities in the College's CRM system.
  • Analyze donor data to identify trends and opportunities for deeper engagement.
  • Make recommendations to advance major gift strategies to help overall fundraising efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, communications, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit management.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • A Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience and skills using donor databases and CRM tools to track donor giving and stewardship activities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Salary range of $38.46 per hour; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge.
