About the position

The Associate Principal Scientist in Analytical Enabling Capabilities is responsible for providing scientific expertise and technical problem-solving to advance the development pipeline in the biopharmaceutical industry. This role focuses on chromatographic isolation of pharmaceutical active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), intermediates, and impurities, utilizing innovative purification workflows to deliver materials with fit-for-purpose purity. The successful candidate will collaborate with process chemists and scientists to enhance the development of new medicines and vaccines, contributing to impactful pipeline deliveries.

Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific expertise and technical problem-solving for the development pipeline.
  • Perform chromatographic isolation of pharmaceutical API, intermediates, and impurities from mg scale to multigram semi-prep scale or prep scale.
  • Partner with process chemists and ARD scientists to deploy efficient chemical isolation methods.
  • Establish innovative purification workflows to deliver purified materials at fit-for-purpose purity.
  • Mentor peers and engage in external scientific activities, including publications and presentations.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or a related field with a minimum of 4 years of industry experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, or M.S. with a minimum of 8 years, or Bachelor's with a minimum of 12 years of experience.
  • Expertise in semi-prep/prep scale supercritical fluid chromatographic (SFC) principles and technologies.
  • Strong knowledge in orthogonal chromatographic separation techniques, including reversed phase and ion exchange chromatography.
  • Expertise in mass spectrometry and its application in chromatographic purification.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with a proven track record in scientific research and development.
  • Experience in mentoring peers and engaging in external scientific activities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Pharmaceutical GMP experience is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in chromatographic system configuration and troubleshooting with a focus on SFC.
