About the position

WSP USA is seeking an Associate Project Accountant to provide professional accounting and financial support to project teams in the Portland, OR office. This role involves reviewing project charges, maintaining project budgets, and ensuring compliance with contracts while generating accurate documentation for various projects. The Associate Project Accountant will manage project costs and revenue, perform detailed accounting tasks, and collaborate with project managers to ensure financial accuracy and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate project charges for accuracy and complete cost transfers.
  • Establish and update project funding and maintain project budgets.
  • Generate accurate documentation regarding infrastructure and transportation projects within Oracle.
  • Review and provide quality assurance on invoices, ensuring compliance with contracts.
  • Manage and analyze the collection, recording, and allocation of project costs and revenue.
  • Create project accounts in Oracle and track project budgets and invoicing.
  • Partner with project managers to establish and update project budgets as needed.
  • Generate project financial reports and escalate issues to project management as necessary.
  • Authorize access to project accounts and manage expense transfers in compliance with accounting practices.
  • Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or a closely-related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience in accounting and project contracts.
  • Knowledge of project accounting principles and practices.
  • Strong analytical mindset with sound independent judgment.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Proficient in technical writing and accounting software, especially MS Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Oracle accounting software preferred.
