About the position

DUAL North America, Inc. is seeking an Associate Underwriter to join its subsidiary Catalytic on the Earthquake division. This role is pivotal in supporting the underwriting team by managing various tasks related to policy issuance, inspection reviews, and customer service. The Associate Underwriter will be responsible for reviewing policy issuance and correspondence, conducting inspection reviews and analyses to identify issues, and processing submissions to assist underwriters effectively. The position requires a basic understanding of technical underwriting principles and risk characteristics, as well as the ability to learn about market dynamics and competitive landscapes. In this role, the Associate Underwriter will also provide backup support for underwriters during their market travels and will be involved in generating and sending out various correspondence on behalf of the underwriters, including declination letters and quote follow-ups. The position emphasizes the importance of customer service and underwriting support to achieve new and renewal premium goals. The Associate Underwriter will work closely with underwriters to develop business relationships with producers and will be expected to fill in for team members during peak periods or when they are unavailable. The work environment is hybrid, allowing for flexibility between the Chicago, IL, and San Diego, CA offices. The role is designed for individuals who are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently in a small office setting. Responsibilities

  • Review policy issuance and correspondence.
  • Conduct inspection review and analysis to identify issues and process post-inspection changes as necessary.
  • Assist underwriters as requested.
  • Process submissions by providing account triage for underwriters.
  • Provide backup support for underwriters when traveling in the market.
  • Gather and compile information required to quote and/or bind an account.
  • Generate, edit, and send out various correspondence on behalf of the underwriters, such as declination letters, quote follow-ups, and subjectivity reminders.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of technical underwriting principles and risk underwriting characteristics.
  • Learn market dynamics, competitive landscape, and product differences.
  • Provide customer service and underwriting support to help achieve new and renewal premium goals.
  • Work in conjunction with underwriters to develop business/personal relationships with producers.
  • Travel with an underwriter as needed.
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties such as processing endorsements.
  • Fill in for other team members to ensure business continuity during peak periods or when team members are unavailable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 2 to 4 years of insurance experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of insurance terminology.
  • Typing proficiency (35 wpm minimum).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Agency Management System(s).
  • Experience working in a 'paperless' environment preferred.
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures.
  • Complete assigned tasks correctly and on time, with the ability to learn quickly.
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently for extended periods.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a general understanding of business writing.
