About the position

The Associate Underwriter - Individual plays a crucial role in the analysis of applicant responses on insurance applications to determine policy issuance and appropriate rate levels. This position requires a thorough understanding of established company protocols and commercial medical underwriting guidelines. The Associate Underwriter is responsible for analyzing and interpreting applicants' medical records, ensuring that all evaluations are conducted in accordance with the established commercial guidelines. This role may also involve assisting in the development of underwriting protocols and training assistant underwriting staff in their duties, ensuring that all team members are well-versed in the processes and practices related to Individual Underwriting. In addition to the analytical responsibilities, the Associate Underwriter must effectively manage communication regarding underwriting requirements and decisions with the appropriate sales personnel. This includes identifying and documenting best practices and operational efficiencies within the underwriting process. The Associate Underwriter is tasked with creating and documenting standardized processes for individual underwriting, which is essential for maintaining consistency and accuracy in quotes provided to clients. The role also involves organizing and managing the workflow of individual underwriting to ensure timely delivery of accurate quotes. Regular summarization and reporting of activities to the manager are required, along with the direct compilation of all necessary data for auditing department activities. Compliance with both domestic and international insurance laws and regulations is a critical aspect of this position, as is the documentation of department activities and the development of underwriting guidelines in collaboration with management. The Associate Underwriter will also be responsible for monthly and quarterly reporting to maintain comprehensive data sets and will represent underwriting as a subject matter expert within the organization. Maintaining department file systems and performing other duties as assigned are also part of the job responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze health information from applicants using commercial underwriting guidelines.
  • Manage communication of underwriting requirements and decisions with appropriate sales personnel.
  • Identify and document best practices and operational efficiencies.
  • Create and document standardized processes for the individual underwriting processes.
  • Train and direct assistant personnel in department process and practice relative to Individual Underwriting.
  • Organize and manage individual underwriting workflow to time delivery of accurate quotes.
  • Summarize and report activities to manager.
  • Direct compilation of all data necessary for audit of department activities.
  • Ensure compliance with domestic and international insurance laws and regulations.
  • Document department activities and develop with manager input UW guidelines for department control processes.
  • Monthly and quarterly reporting to maintain data sets.
  • Represent underwriting as a subject matter expert.
  • Maintain department file systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • One-year experience with health insurance underwriting procedures.
  • Desire to work in the international health insurance industry.
  • Strong analytic skills and detail oriented.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Employee is required to have at minimum an internet speed of 75 Mbps (standard high-speed Internet access).
