About the position

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards the Congress, Members of Congress, employees, visitors, and Congressional buildings and grounds from crime, disruption, and terrorism. We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment. This position is located within the Office of Inspector General (OIG). The OIG has statutory oversight responsibility covering the United States Capitol Police (USCP). This oversight responsibility includes conducting and reporting on audits, inspections, investigations, and special inquiries of all USCP organizational entities. These audits encompass the following: (a) the operating, administration, and financial activities of USCP Bureaus and Offices; and are directed to determine compliance with applicable laws, economy, and efficiency and/or achievement of program results; and (b) selected claims, costs, cost proposals, and cost and pricing data arising from loans or other agreements entered into by USCP.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, conducts, and prepares reports on audits, analyses and reviews.
  • Resolves most issues encountered in audits including those where the governing laws and/or regulations require interpretation.
  • Ensures that the audit findings are supportable, meets audit standards, and that conclusions and recommendations are sound and reasonable.
  • Prepares, reviews, and edits draft reports. Submits comprehensive objective reports of the audit with well-defined findings and well-reasoned recommendations for corrective actions needed.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation is required.
  • Must complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Must have Direct Deposit.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
  • Must meet the minimum basic educational and/or work experience requirements for professional accounting positions in the federal government.
  • Must have specialized experience performing accounting, auditing, financial or compliance work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience conducting or overseeing financial statement, information technology, or performance audits.
  • Possess a relevant professional certification such as CISA, CISSP, CPA, CIA, CFE, or CGFM.
