The Automation Designer at Ashley will play a crucial role in the design, build, and operation of machines that enhance manufacturing, distribution, automation, and supply chain processes across the organization. This position requires a blend of creativity and technical expertise, as the Automation Designer will work independently or collaboratively with a team of Engineers, Technicians, and component suppliers. The primary responsibility will be to design automation equipment and machines from concept through implementation, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary specifications and standards. The Automation Designer will be responsible for creating 3D associative solid models, detail drawings, weldment drawings, and assemblies, as well as 2D and 3D electrical drawings. This role involves accurately developing solid models of fully assembled products and detail parts, including the creation of bills of materials (BOM). The designer will also maintain all 3D CAD drawings and work instructions, ensuring that they are up-to-date and accessible for manufacturing and assembly teams. In addition to design responsibilities, the Automation Designer will proactively collaborate with Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineers to ensure timely scheduling, production efficiency, cost savings, and continuous improvement processes. This position requires independent evaluation and application of standard mechanical design techniques to solve technical problems related to machine design, manufacturability, product quality, and systems compatibility. The Automation Designer will also support manufacturing and assembly teams by providing design specifications and troubleshooting equipment design issues as they arise.
