Automation Engineer

Arcadis is seeking an Automation Engineer that will deploy, develop and design automation system strategy for manufacturing processes, including control systems, PLCs, SCADA, and HMI.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with process engineers and other stakeholders to define automation requirements and specifications.
• Oversee the installation and integration of automation systems with existing manufacturing equipment and processes.
• Ensure seamless integration of automation systems with IT infrastructure and data management systems.
• Ability to understand, write and debug PLC and HMI programs to control manufacturing processes.
• Configure and program SCADA systems to monitor and control plant operations.
• Conduct thorough testing and validation of automation systems to ensure they meet performance and reliability standards.
• Develop and execute test plans, protocols, and reports.
• Provide ongoing support and maintenance for automation systems, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
• Implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and ensure system reliability.
• Create and maintain detailed documentation for automation systems, including user manuals, SOPs, and technical specifications.
• Train plant personnel on the operation and maintenance of automation systems.
• Identify opportunities for process optimization and implement automation solutions to improve efficiency and productivity.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in automation technology and industry best practices.
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• BS in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in automation engineering, preferably 8+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or manufacturing sector.
• Strong knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA systems, and HMI development.
• Experience with control system design and integration.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, teamwork abilities and willingness to take on responsibilities beyond the traditional automation engineering role.
• Strong communication, interpersonal skills, proficiency in automation software/ tools.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of GMP/ regulatory requirements in the pharmaceutical industry is a plus.
• Ability to provide legal US work authorization documents required.
