About the position

Nightmotorsport is seeking an Engine Machinist & Builder Extraordinaire to join our elite team in Bloomington, CA. As a premier Subaru engine specialist, we are looking for someone who is passionate about the meticulous craft of engine machining, building, and remanufacturing. The ideal candidate will find joy in the rhythmic hum of connecting rods and the subtle whisper of piston rings, and will be responsible for rejuvenating the legendary boxer engines that we specialize in. In this role, you will conduct a full range of engine machining and rebuilding tasks, which include disassembly and inspection, precise machining, and reassembly of engines and components. You will be expected to proficiently handle tasks such as honing cylinders, boring cylinders, resurfacing heads, and balancing crankshafts, utilizing sophisticated measuring tools on state-of-the-art Rottler CNC and manual equipment. Your technical expertise will be crucial in blueprinting and balancing crankshafts and rods to ensure smooth, vibration-free operation, as well as fitting pistons and rings for optimal performance. You will also need to demonstrate an encyclopedic knowledge of Subaru engines and other makes, understanding the nuances of different models, years, and engine variations. Staying abreast of the latest Subaru engine technologies and machining methods will be essential. Craftsmanship and quality are paramount; you will take pride in delivering work that exceeds perfection at every stage of the rebuilding process while maintaining a spotless and organized workspace and adhering to strict safety protocols. Additionally, you will oversee and train other machinists and builders, ensuring a collaborative and effective work environment. Effective communication with technicians, staff, and customers is vital, as you will keep them informed of progress and potential challenges. Utilizing MRP software for efficient operations will also be part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as an engine machinist or builder.
  • Extensive experience with engines across various models and years.
  • Proficiency in operating CNC machining centers, honing machines, valve machining centers, and other relevant equipment.
  • Strong understanding of engine theory and principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proactive and collaborative attitude.
  • Proficient in metrology, ensuring precision in every aspect.
