About the position

The Avionics Mechanical Design and Analysis Engineer III at Blue Origin plays a crucial role in the In-Space Systems business unit, focusing on the design, analysis, and testing of avionics enclosures for spacecraft. This position involves working within a diverse team to develop high-reliability solutions for electronic components in harsh environments, contributing to the future of space mobility and safe human spaceflight.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and test avionics enclosures for electronic components on various spacecraft.
  • Support electronics development and trade studies, creating interface definition, specification, and control documents.
  • Validate requirements through design, test, analysis, or inspection.
  • Plan and conduct tests, review and interpret data.
  • Create assembly and/or installation drawings and support hardware builds.
  • Complete thermal and structural analyses of avionics designs.
  • Create engineering drawings and manage product configuration through the product lifecycle.
  • Create test plans and manage testing and qualification of the product.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electro-mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related technical subject area.
  • 5+ years of experience with design of electro-mechanical avionics assemblies, static structural, modal, random vibration, and thermal analysis.
  • Experience with Steinberg or Engelmeier solder fatigue.
  • Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS preferred).
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E preferred).
  • Experience with GD&T implementation and analysis (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience designing ruggedized electronics enclosures or similar high-performance hardware.
  • Experience in electromechanical design of avionics enclosures, PCBA integration, trace sizing and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge on avionics reliability mitigations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with recent versions of Creo, Windchill, ANSYS, ICEPAK, and Sherlock.
  • Experience with fatigue analysis and fracture mechanics.
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry standard structural analysis methods.
  • Familiarity with environmental testing similar to SMC-S-016, DO-160, and/or MIL-STD-810.
  • Familiarity with circuit card design per IPC-A-610 and/or J standards.
