About the position

Sompo International is seeking an Assistant Vice President, E&S Casualty Underwriter to join our seasoned U.S. Excess Casualty - E&S team. This position can be located in our Los Angeles or Irvine, CA office and will report directly to the Senior Vice President, E&S Casualty. In this role, you will leverage your expertise and creativity to underwrite lead and excess liability business in accordance with Sompo's established processes, procedures, business philosophy, and appetite. You will be responsible for evaluating individual risk characteristics to determine capacity, attachment points, terms, and pricing effectively. Your role will also involve maintaining and enhancing existing relationships with wholesale brokers while identifying and developing new relationships both regionally and beyond. You will adapt your underwriting techniques to align with underwriting guidelines and rating plans, allowing you to write a diverse range of account sizes and operations. Additionally, you will develop and execute a marketing plan aimed at retaining existing business and producing new business opportunities, while collaborating and cross-selling with other lines of business within Sompo. Responsibilities

  • Underwrite lead and excess liability business in accordance with Sompo's process, procedures, business philosophy and appetite.
  • Evaluate individual risk characteristics to determine capacity, attachment point, terms, and pricing.
  • Maintain and enhance existing wholesale broker relationships and develop new relationships regionally and outside the territory.
  • Adapt underwriting techniques to underwriting guidelines and rating plans to write a wide range of account sizes and operations.
  • Develop and execute a marketing plan aimed at retaining existing business and producing new business.
  • Collaborate and cross-sell with other lines of business within Sompo.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of casualty underwriting experience.
  • Strong established relationships with regional wholesale brokers with the ability to move business.
  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year College or University.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPCU designation and/or Surplus Lines license preferred.
