About the position

Westchester Programs is seeking an experienced applicant for the position of AVP Underwriting, specifically focusing on Worker's Compensation, in our Philadelphia office. The ideal candidate will possess superior knowledge and experience in Workers Compensation, along with a foundational understanding of General Liability, Property, and Auto insurance, and a keen interest in expanding their expertise in these areas. As the AVP, Underwriting, you will be responsible for the day-to-day servicing of a book of large and complex accounts. This role entails managing the rate, growth, and retention of your assigned book, ensuring that all aspects of underwriting are handled with precision and care. You will evaluate risks and negotiate annual pricing, terms, and conditions for renewal business, while also exploring new business opportunities with key Programs. This includes designing and proposing appropriate program structures and pricing for these opportunities. Building and maintaining relationships with Managing General Agents is crucial, as is tracking claims and coordinating communication for the development of claims with the appropriate parties. Ultimately, your role will drive the financial performance of the assigned book of business, ensuring that all underwriting practices align with organizational goals and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Handle day-to-day servicing for a book of large and complex accounts.
  • Be responsible for rate, growth and retention of assigned book.
  • Evaluate risks while negotiating the annual pricing, terms and conditions on renewal business.
  • Work on new business opportunities with key Programs, designing and proposing appropriate program structures and pricing.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with Managing General Agents.
  • Track claims and coordinate communication for the development of claims with appropriate parties.
  • Drive financial performance of the assigned book of business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 7+ years Worker's Compensation underwriting experience including time spent in the property & casualty space.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current insurance marketplace conditions.
  • Understanding and adherence to organizational and regulatory rules, and ability to adhere to underwriting authority.
  • Understanding of Workers Compensation, General Liability, Property and Auto Liability Insurance coverage, terms and conditions.
  • Ability to identify risk exposures, special or common hazards, and appropriate controls.
  • Ability to select risk based on exposure and hazard analysis.
  • Ability to analyze claims and loss trends.
