About the position

The Benefits and Leave Coordinator at Francis Marion University will provide comprehensive Human Resources services, focusing on managing employee benefits and leave programs. This role involves maintaining personnel records, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and assisting staff with their benefits and leave inquiries. The coordinator will work closely with the HR department to facilitate smooth operations and support for new and existing employees.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Associate Director of Human Resources-Employee Services with Leave and Benefits Programs and maintenance of staff records.
  • Provide the Associate Director of Human Resources-Administrative Services with the time and leave information necessary to run payroll and complete required reports.
  • Maintain Time Records for all full-time non-exempt employees.
  • Conduct orientation to acquaint new staff with agency policies, procedures, and regulations concerning Benefits and Leave.
  • Describe insurance and retirement benefits, and other benefits as available, to new and existing employees.
  • Discuss eligibility for insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
  • Ensure that staff are enrolled in their selected programs.
  • Assist staff in using systems provided by the Public Employee Benefits Administration.
  • Consult with supervisors to ensure that adequate records are maintained for hours worked and leave used, providing this information to other HR staff as required.
  • Review staff leave records with the employee and supervisor, as needed.
  • Coordinate with supervisor, employee, and HR staff when situations requiring extended leave arise (e.g., FMLA).
  • Coordinate with supervisor and staff member when abuse of leave is suspected.
  • Prepare materials for employee service-recognition ceremonies.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Human Resources principles (i.e., hiring, good employee relations, disciplinary practices, end of employment).
  • Ability to quickly acquire working knowledge of federal laws and state regulations affecting human resources (FMLA, FLSA, ACA).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook and 365.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to analyze needs and to recommend and communicate solutions effectively.
  • Bachelor's Degree in any field and experience in Human Resources, or a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning software system (e.g. Colleague, Banner, Oracle).
