The Employee Benefits Consultant position at Barrett Business Services, Inc. This role is pivotal in providing guidance and support to clients, ensuring they can leverage their benefits offerings to attract and retain top talent while enhancing productivity. BBSI focuses on eliminating organizational complexity for small and medium-sized businesses by offering outsourced benefits, HR, risk management, payroll administration, and recruiting services. The Employee Benefits Consultant will work closely with clients to create tailored benefits packages that meet the unique needs of their employees, thereby enhancing the overall employee experience. In this role, the consultant will engage in various activities, including conducting open enrollment meetings to maximize employee engagement and plan participation. They will also be responsible for new business development, identifying opportunities for growth within the master benefits program, which includes health, dental, vision, and ancillary benefits. The consultant will act as a subject matter expert, providing strategic guidance and training to both clients and internal teams, contributing to the professional growth of the organization. The position requires a proactive approach to managing client relationships, ensuring compliance during the onboarding process, and maintaining strong communication throughout the client's lifecycle. The Employee Benefits Consultant will report to the Benefits Consultant Manager and collaborate with various teams within the organization to ensure the successful implementation and management of benefit plans. Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and support to business-owner clients regarding employee benefits.
  • Create tailored benefits packages that meet the needs of clients and their employees.
  • Conduct open enrollment meetings to maximize employee engagement and plan participation.
  • Identify opportunities for new business development within the master benefits program.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in employee benefits, providing strategic guidance and training to clients and internal teams.
  • Manage client relationships throughout the client's lifecycle, including onboarding and compliance.
  • Proactively reach out to clients to resolve escalated matters and ensure client retention.
  • Collaborate with branch leaders and business unit team members to enhance the client experience.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of hands-on employee benefits experience at a benefits brokerage or general agency.
  • Account Management and/or Benefits Administration experience is a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of employee benefits principles and practices, including relevant laws and regulations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain deep knowledge of master plan contracts and carrier partnerships.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, tailored to various audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of accounts while maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint, and CRM software.
  • Current Life and Health Insurance Producer's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior PEO experience is a plus.
  • Experience in underwriting and benefits administration.
