About the position

The Benefits & Compensation Manager at ThriftBooks is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and administration of employee benefit programs. This role requires a strategic mindset to enhance benefits offerings in alignment with organizational goals, ensuring compliance with regulations and optimizing cost-effectiveness. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in benefits administration and strong leadership skills to manage a team and collaborate with HR leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and administer employee benefit programs, including health insurance and retirement plans.
  • Stay current with industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and competitiveness of benefit offerings.
  • Manage relationships with benefit vendors, negotiate contracts, and evaluate service providers.
  • Collaborate with HR leadership to develop strategies for attracting and retaining talent through competitive benefits packages.
  • Lead open enrollment processes, including communication campaigns and employee education sessions.
  • Provide guidance and support to HR team members and employees regarding benefit inquiries and claims issues.
  • Analyze benefit utilization data and conduct benchmarking studies to assess program effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement employee wellness initiatives to promote employee well-being.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on benefits-related matters, providing training and guidance to managers and employees.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing employee benefits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field.
  • 5+ years experience in benefit administration, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Thorough understanding of employee benefit laws and regulations, including ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, and FMLA.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and conduct cost-benefit analyses.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in benefits administration software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP or SCP) credential is a plus.
