The Benefits Coordinator will oversee and coordinate the authorization and benefits staff, ensuring that all operations run smoothly and efficiently. In this role, the Benefits Coordinator will maintain a comprehensive understanding of Medicare and commercial insurance policy requirements, as well as medical necessity documentation related to the services billed by the company. The coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that all required documentation is on file for prescribed services and products, and may also be tasked with completing prior authorizations, pre-determinations, and patient benefit estimates for various services, including in-lab sleep tests and CPAP therapy. The Benefits Coordinator will serve as a point of contact for patients regarding their insurance coverage, helping them understand their financial responsibilities and setting up payment arrangements. Additionally, the coordinator will update billing cases in patient charts, create letters of medical necessity, and address any inquiries from physicians regarding medical policy requirements. Regular communication with the Revenue Cycle Manager and fellow team leads will be essential to address any operational challenges within the benefits intake processes. This position is crucial in ensuring that the benefits and authorization processes are executed effectively, contributing to the overall success of the Colorado Sleep Institute.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate the authorization and benefits staff.
  • Maintain knowledge of Medicare NCD/LCD policy requirements.
  • Understand commercial insurance policy requirements.
  • Ensure all required medical necessity documentation is on file.
  • Complete prior authorizations and patient benefit estimates as assigned.
  • Educate patients on their insurance coverage and financial arrangements.
  • Collect patient payments over the phone.
  • Update billing cases in patient charts regarding billing status and authorization requirements.
  • Create letters of medical necessity for services billed by the company.
  • Act as a point of contact for staff questions regarding benefits and medical documentation.
  • Communicate regularly with the Revenue Cycle Manager regarding operational problems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • 0 to 1 years of knowledge and experience with medical billing preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of medical office experience preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of knowledge and experience with DME billing preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of knowledge and experience of Government/Commercial payor policies and compliance requirements.
