About the position

The Benefits Coordinator plays a crucial role in the Human Resources department of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, focusing on the administration of employee benefits. This position is responsible for processing benefits administration, which includes assisting employees with enrollment in employer-sponsored plans, managing insurance billing, and maintaining accurate employee databases and files. The Benefits Coordinator also oversees medical leave requests and the worker's compensation programs, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and regulations. The role requires a high level of interpersonal skills, as it involves extensive personal contact with employees and external entities, necessitating trust, diplomacy, and the ability to influence and motivate others. The position is based at the Nation's headquarters located at 16281 Q Road, Mayetta, KS, and offers a competitive pay range of $19.26 to $31.47 per hour, depending on experience and education. To qualify for this position, candidates must have a valid Kansas driver's license and be insurable under the Nation's insurance policy. A minimum of 2-4 years of direct experience in HR or benefits administration is required, with a preference for candidates who have 5 or more years of relevant experience. Educational qualifications include at least an Associate degree in a business-related field, with a Bachelor's degree preferred. Candidates are expected to obtain the Tribal HR Professional (THRP) certification within one year of hire if they do not already possess it. The role demands a comprehensive understanding of personnel and human resources principles, administrative procedures, and customer service principles, along with strong communication skills and critical thinking abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Process benefits administration for the Nation by assisting employees with employer-sponsored plan enrollment.
  • Manage insurance billing and maintain employee database and files.
  • Process and monitor medical leave requests and worker's compensation programs.
  • Provide support and guidance to employees regarding benefits-related inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations regarding employee benefits.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of direct HR or benefits administration experience.
  • Preferred: 5+ years of direct experience with benefits administration.
  • Minimum: Associate degree or above in a business-related field.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
  • Willingness to obtain the Tribal HR Professional (THRP) certification within one year of hire.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation, and benefits.

Nice-to-haves

  • Currently THRP or THRPII certified.
  • Experience with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and benefit portals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster relationships with external entities.
