Biological Scientist/Program Manager - Molecular Diagnostics

About the position

Ready to put your scientific expertise to work in detecting biological threat agents, both natural and man-made domestically and across the globe? We are seeking a Biological Scientist/Program Manager to support and facilitate biological research for the rapid detection of infectious diseases of global importance and the enhancement of global disease surveillance for early pathogen detection and response. This position resides at Fort Detrick in Fredrick, MD and will support the Biological Defense Research Directorate (BDRD) in the Molecular Diagnostics (MD) Department.

Responsibilities

• Supports research and development, reagent production and quality management of molecular diagnostics.
• Production of real-time polymerase chain reaction assays.
• Molecular assay development and platform test and evaluation.
• Provide and evaluate proficiency testing for biological threats.
• Laboratory and field support for biological threat agent detection.

Requirements

• Bachelors or Master's degree, or equivalent experience, in a biological science field and proficiency testing.
• 10+ years of practical experience in molecular biology and proficiency testing.
• Practical knowledge of basic and applied research relating to PCR and immunological based detection.
• Demonstrated ability to perform DoD operational projects, including proficiency testing programs.
• Liaise with relevant government agencies, training of other scientists, technicians, and support personnel.
• Shipboard readiness visits, analyzing data, writing standard operating procedures and reports, and devise budgets.
• Experience with development of scenario based written and hands on testing.
• At least 10 years of experience in the field of biodefense, with specific experience in nucleic acid and antibody-based detection platforms used for bio-threat agent detection.
• Skilled in the use of Microsoft office suite, statistical software, and File Maker software.
• Must currently possess or be able to pass all criteria for a Secret security clearance.
