About the position

The Biomedical Engineer 2 position at GE Healthcare in El Paso, Texas, involves responding to service calls to evaluate, diagnose, and perform repairs and planned maintenance on progressively complex biomedical equipment. This position requires a proactive approach to communication with customers and collaboration with team members to deliver efficient service. The engineer will also be expected to maintain technical knowledge of current standards and procedures, ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements. In this role, the engineer will evaluate complex biomedical equipment issues and implement appropriate repairs. They will perform planned maintenance, conduct safety and environmental inspections, and maintain effective customer relations. The engineer will guide others regarding GE policies and procedures, ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed accurately. Establishing proactive daily communications with customers is essential to ensure resolution and proper follow-up, leading to enhanced customer satisfaction. The Biomedical Engineer 2 will also lead and instruct technicians on both basic and complex repairs, sharing on-call responsibilities and documenting all repair actions according to schedule. They will manage the inventory of approved parts and ensure the proper care of tools and test equipment. The role may involve acting as a Site Leader, directing the activities of fellow Biomedical Technicians and engaging in customer relationships. The engineer must meet all regulatory requirements and promote the effective operation of medical equipment, including the management of specific devices such as deacons and beacons.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate complex, customer biomedical equipment issues, and implement appropriate repairs.
  • Perform planned maintenance (PM), safety and environmental inspections, and maintain effective customer relations.
  • Follow and guide others as needed regarding appropriate GE policies, procedures, hospital protocol, and complete necessary documentation.
  • Effectively communicate and partner with teammates and colleagues.
  • Establish and engage in proactive daily communications with customers, to ensure resolution and proper follow up, leading to customer satisfaction.
  • Implement GE/customer facility contract, supporting business goals and objectives.
  • Lead, instruct, and assist technicians on basic and complex repairs and resolution.
  • Work as a member of local team to provide efficient service delivery to all accounts within assigned area.
  • Share on-call/pager responsibility.
  • Document all repair actions and submit reports/summaries according to schedule.
  • Ensure proper care of spares, tools and test equipment, and ensure calibration.
  • Maintain approved parts inventory.
  • Manage vendors' service delivery processes in compliance with GE policies, as instructed.
  • Enhance and maintain technical knowledge of current standards, codes, and procedures regarding safe and effective use of medical equipment through formal instruction.
  • May perform role of Site Leader, directing activities of fellow Biomedical Technicians assigned to site and engaging in customer relationships.
  • Meet Health and Human Services, Environment Health and Safety requirements, and/or all other applicable regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of experience servicing medical equipment; OR equivalent military education and 2+ years of experience servicing electrical or mechanical equipment; OR High School Diploma/GED and 4+ years of experience servicing medical equipment.
  • Analytical and communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues to the customer in an easy to understand manner.
  • Compliance with GEHC's standard background check, including a post-offer drug test.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 lbs. unassisted and frequently bend, stoop, twist, climb, crouch/squat, kneel/crawl, sit and stand for long periods of time.
