About the position

The Biomedical Engineer plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by planning, training others, and ensuring the installation, maintenance, and repair of sophisticated medical equipment and systems that are essential for the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of various biomedical equipment and systems, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with other engineering specialties and external partners. The engineer will be responsible for performing all phases of scheduled and corrective repairs, ensuring that all equipment is compliant with safety standards and operational requirements. In this role, the Biomedical Engineer will work under the supervision of a manager or designee, conducting pre-issue and asset accounting, as well as the installation and de-installation of medical equipment as needed. Regular inspections, maintenance, and electrical safety tests will be performed to ensure that all biomedical equipment is functioning correctly and safely. Documentation of all inspections, maintenance, and tests is a critical responsibility, ensuring that all work performed is recorded accurately and in a timely manner. Collaboration is key in this position, as the engineer will work closely with other biomedical engineers specializing in various fields such as Instrumentation, X-Ray, CT/MR, Diagnostic Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Clinical Laboratory, and more. The role also requires frequent travel to provide service support across different sites, attend technical training, and respond to emergency service calls. The engineer must be prepared to work after hours and be part of an on-call schedule to address urgent needs as they arise. Communication devices will be provided to ensure constant connectivity during duty hours.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all phases of scheduled and corrective repairs of biomedical equipment and medical systems under supervision.
  • Conduct pre-issue and asset accounting, equipment installation, and de-installation as needed.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections, maintenance, and electrical safety tests of biomedical equipment to maintain code compliance.
  • Document the results of all inspections, maintenance, and tests accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with other biomedical engineers and specialties, KPIT, Business Partners, and OEM representatives.
  • Complete applicable documentation of all work performed promptly.
  • Travel frequently to provide service support and attend technical training as required.
  • Participate in afterhours work as needed to complete required tasks.
  • Be available for weekday and weekend on-call schedules to perform emergency service.

Requirements

  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in biomedical engineering or related field.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Valid California Driver's License with a good driving record.
  • Experience and working knowledge of medical equipment and systems in general instrumentation or specialty area assigned.
  • Proficient in operating PCs with Windows operating systems.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates degree or equivalent in electronics, physics, or related science preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of service experience and formal OEM training on various instruments used in clinical laboratories.
