About the position

The Biomedical Engineer at Cedars-Sinai's Heart Institute is responsible for the development and delivery of medical programs and products, particularly focusing on transcatheter heart valves and related components. This role involves working through all phases of the development lifecycle, from conception to production, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project milestones and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for program/application/product development supporting business objectives.
  • Analyzes, designs, and builds using design patterns and systematic approaches.
  • Performs hands-on development and mentors junior developers.
  • Serves as liaison to internal customers, research groups, and various business support areas.
  • Works with engineers and contract manufacturers to achieve project milestones.
  • Conducts requirement assessments and documents new requirements and enhancements.
  • Develops functionality based on requirements, including detailed design documentation and code.
  • Performs unit, regression, connectivity, and end-to-end integration tests.
  • Collaborates with teams to migrate new or enhanced functionality from test to production.
  • Facilitates design and technical meetings and provides technical documentation.
  • Instructs, guides, and mentors junior-level staff.
  • Provides support during mission-critical upgrades and new go-lives.
  • Develops and implements policies for security and confidentiality of products.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline required.
  • 4-5 years of experience managing design, development, and maintenance in a complex, multiplatform environment required.
  • Knowledge of FDA Quality System Regulations and Medical Device Directives including ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and ISO 62304 standards.
  • Ability to use structural finite element analysis software such as Cosmos or Ansys.
  • Demonstrate data analysis skills and sound statistical analysis methodologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Engineering or similar field preferred.
  • 10 years' experience developing structural heart products and/or product design preferred.
  • 10 years' experience using 3D model software preferred.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate or similar certification.
