About the position

The University of Miami's Clinical Engineering department is seeking a Full Time Biomedical Technician 1 to join the UHealth team. This position involves performing a variety of routine tasks related to the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of biomedical equipment. The Biomedical Technician 1 will work under the supervision and guidance of a more experienced biomedical engineer, ensuring that all tasks are completed in accordance with established standards and protocols. The role requires the utilization of both standard and specialized electronic test equipment and tools to effectively carry out repairs, tests, and calibrations of medical equipment according to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and Alternative Equipment Manufacturer (AEM) specifications, while adhering to Joint Commission standards. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Biomedical Technician 1 will assist in enforcing recall and safety alert programs for medical devices, which includes conducting medical device hazard investigations. Compliance with patient safety goals and applicable requirements is a critical aspect of this role. The technician will be responsible for completing 100% of scheduled Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance (ITM) tasks assigned on a monthly basis, as well as ordering replacement parts and supplies necessary for servicing medical equipment. Effective prioritization of workload and timely completion of all work assignments are essential. The technician must maintain accurate documentation as required by current policies and procedures, and adhere to University and unit-level policies while safeguarding University assets. It is important to note that this list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be expanded to include additional tasks as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of biomedical equipment under supervision.
  • Utilize standard and specialized electronic test equipment and tools for repairs and testing.
  • Repair, test, and calibrate medical equipment according to OEM/AEM specifications and Joint Commission standards.
  • Assist in enforcing recall and safety alert programs for medical devices, including hazard investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with patient safety goals and applicable requirements.
  • Complete 100% of scheduled ITM's assigned on a monthly basis.
  • Order replacement parts and supplies necessary for servicing medical equipment.
  • Prioritize workload effectively and complete all work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate documentation as required by current policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in a related field.
  • If no degree, military training in a related field is required, and a certificate in Biomedical Equipment Technician must be obtained within two years of hire.
  • If an associate degree is held, no additional experience is required.
  • If no associate degree, a minimum of 6 months of relevant experience is required.
  • Military training in biomedical technician or equivalent.
