About the position

The Biomedical Engineer II position at Kaiser Permanente involves the acquisition, installation, calibration, maintenance, and decommissioning of medical equipment. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure the effective deployment and compliance of medical systems, while also providing training and support to staff and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on specifications for purchases of new equipment and recommend replacement of obsolete or irreparable equipment.
  • Consult and collaborate with key stakeholders for the installation and deployment of medical equipment and systems.
  • Perform or coordinate assembly and installation of medical equipment, including electrical, mechanical, gas, pneumatics, software, and networking.
  • Prepare periodic maintenance instructions for medical equipment and perform required safety inspections.
  • Assess medical equipment for compliance with HIPAA storage and security policies and complete documentation for maintenance management.
  • Perform or schedule preventive maintenance and performance assessments on medical equipment.
  • Analyze and correct malfunctions on medical equipment systems using various diagnostic methods.
  • Perform remediation actions on medical equipment safety and recall hazard alerts.
  • Investigate medical equipment involved in patient and employee incidents and document findings.
  • Provide training and assign work orders to third-party service vendors and student trainees.
  • Coordinate the decommissioning of medical equipment per established policies.
  • Assist with staff in-service education and cross-train new employees.

Requirements

  • Minimum four (4) years of experience servicing medical equipment or two (2) years with CBET certification.
  • AAS degree in Biomedical Equipment Service Technology, Electronic Service Technology, or Computer Service Technology from an accredited program or military training in Biomedical Equipment training or Electronic Systems Support.
  • Drivers License (in location where applicable) required at hire.
  • Proficient in the use of testing instruments, devices, simulators, and tools associated with servicing electronic equipment.
  • Strong mathematical ability, attention to detail, and concentration.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Background in servicing and repairing electronic and electromechanical equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in customer service, interpersonal relations, adaptability, decision making, problem solving, and project management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge and skill using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Computer networking certification.
  • Experience servicing medical equipment with emphasis on multi-manufacturer experience.
  • Experience servicing computer client-server systems.
