About the position

The position of Medical Imaging Equipment Technician at Kaiser Permanente involves a range of responsibilities under the supervision of the Clinical Technology Manager and Chief Medical Imaging Engineer. The technician will be engaged in the acquisition, installation, calibration, repair, and maintenance of medical imaging equipment. This role is critical in ensuring that medical imaging systems are operational, safe, and compliant with relevant standards and regulations. The technician will advise on specifications for new equipment purchases and recommend replacements for obsolete or irreparable equipment. They will also evaluate new products as requested and collaborate with key stakeholders to prepare for the installation and deployment of medical imaging systems, which includes various technical aspects such as electrical, mechanical, gas, pneumatics, software, networking, and integration with data retention systems. In addition to installation, the technician will be responsible for preparing periodic maintenance instructions and performing required safety inspections and performance assurance on new medical equipment. They will assess equipment for compliance with HIPAA storage and security policies and maintain documentation for the centralized maintenance management system. The technician will also perform or coordinate preventive maintenance and performance assessments, analyze and correct malfunctions, and document all work performed. They will handle remediation actions for safety and recall alerts and investigate incidents involving medical equipment. Training and assigning work to third-party service vendors and student trainees will also be part of the role, along with assisting in staff education and cross-training new employees on departmental procedures and test equipment usage. The technician is expected to maintain current knowledge of advancing technology and develop a professional growth plan, ensuring they are equipped to meet the evolving needs of the organization. Miscellaneous duties may also be assigned as required to support the organization's objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on specifications for purchases of new medical imaging equipment and recommend replacement of obsolete or irreparable equipment.
  • Provide new product evaluation as requested.
  • Consult and collaborate with key stakeholders for installation and deployment of medical imaging equipment and systems.
  • Perform or coordinate assembly and installation of medical equipment.
  • Prepare periodic maintenance instructions for medical equipment.
  • Perform required safety inspection and performance assurance on new medical equipment.
  • Assess medical equipment for compliance with HIPAA storage and security policies.
  • Complete documentation for entry into the centralized maintenance management system.
  • Complete and maintain system function, configuration, and support documentation.
  • Directly perform or schedule performance assessment and preventive maintenance with outside service vendors.
  • Document work performed and analyze/correct malfunctions on medical equipment systems.
  • Perform or coordinate remediation action on medical equipment safety and recall hazard alerts.
  • Investigate medical equipment involved in patient and employee incidents/accidents and document findings.
  • Provide training and assign work orders to third-party service vendors and student trainees.
  • Perform or coordinate the decommissioning of medical equipment per established policies.
  • Assist with staff in-service education and cross-train new employees.

Requirements

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience servicing medical imaging equipment and CRES certification OR minimum four (4) years of experience servicing medical imaging equipment.
  • AAS degree in biomedical equipment service technology, electronic service technology, or computer service technology from an accredited program or military biomedical equipment training.
  • Proficient knowledge in the operation and maintenance of medical imaging systems.
  • Demonstrated proficient use of test equipment used in servicing medical imaging systems.
  • Knowledge of standards and codes applicable to medical imaging systems.
  • Proficient in the use of testing instruments, devices, simulators, and tools associated with servicing electronic equipment.
  • Mathematical ability, attention to detail, concentration, and alertness.
  • Reading, writing, and fluently speaking and understanding English.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in customer service, interpersonal relations, adaptability, change management, decision making, oral communication, problem solving, project management, quality management, results orientation, teamwork, and written communication.

Nice-to-haves

  • Background servicing medical imaging equipment with emphasis on multi modality and multi manufacturer experience and years of service.
  • Experience servicing computer client-server systems.
  • Computer networking certification.
  • Certified Radiology Equipment Service (CRES).
  • Knowledge and skill using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
