The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) at Stanford Health Care plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between technology and patient care across various medical settings, including surgical and intensive care units, diagnostic and therapeutic treatment units, clinics, laboratories, and medical equipment distribution areas. Under general supervision, the BMET is responsible for supporting a wide array of medical devices utilized in an academic medical center, in alignment with the Clinical Technology & Biomedical Engineering Medical Equipment Management Plan. This position requires the technician to complete all assigned tasks while adhering to departmental performance standards, ensuring that patient care is not compromised by equipment issues. The BMET is expected to comply with the Department Technician Orientation & Training Competency Program and actively engage in continuous education and training to stay updated with the latest technologies and practices. A key aspect of the role involves documenting all scheduled and unscheduled work performed in the Clinical Technology & Biomedical Engineering inventory and maintenance database, ensuring accurate records are maintained. The technician must also follow all safety guidelines and infection control policies to protect themselves, patients, visitors, and fellow employees. In addition to routine responsibilities, the BMET may be required to provide weekend, holiday, and off-shift coverage, including emergency call-back support. This flexibility is essential to ensure that equipment is serviced promptly, especially when delays could adversely affect patient care. The technician will provide technical bedside support for both routine and emergency trouble calls, demonstrating the ability to assess priorities and escalate complex issues to appropriately trained staff. The role also requires adherence to the Hospital's Conflict of Interest policy, ensuring ethical standards are maintained in all interactions and decisions.
