Under general supervision, the Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) provides a vital link between technology and patient care across various settings, including surgical and intensive care units, diagnostic and therapeutic treatment units, clinics, laboratories, and medical equipment distribution areas. The BMET is expected to support a wide variety of medical devices utilized at an academic medical center, in alignment with the Clinical Technology & Biomedical Engineering Medical Equipment Management Plan. This role is crucial in ensuring that all assignments are completed within the department's performance standards, contributing to the overall quality of patient care. The BMET is responsible for complying with the Department Technician Orientation & Training Competency Program and actively participating in continuous education and training. This includes documenting all scheduled and unscheduled work performed in the Clinical Technology & Biomedical Engineering inventory and maintenance database. The technician must adhere to all safety guidelines and infection control policies, ensuring the well-being of patients, visitors, and employees. Additionally, the BMET is tasked with maintaining confidentiality regarding hospital business and HIPAA compliance. The role may require providing weekend, holiday, and off-shift coverage, including emergency call-back services. The primary responsibility of the BMET is to provide technical support in handling specific logistical activities in defined support areas, functioning as a team member within a workgroup. The technician will also provide technical bedside support for routine and emergency trouble calls, demonstrating the ability to assess priorities and escalate more complex issues to appropriately trained staff. Understanding and adhering to the Hospital's Conflict of Interest policy is also a critical aspect of this position.
