About the position

The Biomedical Engineer at Cedars-Sinai is responsible for the development and delivery of biomedical programs and products, focusing on the entire development lifecycle from conception to maintenance. This role involves hands-on development, mentoring junior developers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve project milestones, particularly in the design and testing of medical devices such as transcatheter heart valves.

Responsibilities

  • Functions as the single point of contact to a cross-functional team.
  • Responsible for the development and delivery lifecycle during the following phases: Requirement Assessment, Development, Testing, and Delivery.
  • Works with inter-departmental teams to analyze and understand business requirements and provides technical expertise during the requirements-gathering phase.
  • Develops functionality based on requirements, following internal development standards, including detailed design documentation and code.
  • Performs unit, regression, connectivity, and full end-to-end integration tests; supports quality assurance efforts to gain user acceptance.
  • Collaborates with inter-departmental and cross-departmental resources to migrate new or enhanced functionality from test to production.
  • Acts as a liaison with end users, research groups, and other business support areas.
  • Leads the design and development of a program/application/product.
  • Facilitates design and technical meetings and provides technical documentation to internal business and design teams.
  • Instructs, guides, and mentors junior-level staff.
  • Provides support during special events such as mission-critical upgrades/enhancements and new go-lives.
  • Develops and implements policies for security and confidentiality of program/application/product.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required by management.
  • Responsible for the mechanical design, development, and testing of a transcatheter heart valve and related accessory components for the treatment of aortic stenosis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in program/application/product development in a biomedical context.
  • Strong understanding of the development lifecycle, including design, testing, and production phases.
  • Proficiency in mechanical design and testing of medical devices.
  • Ability to mentor junior developers and guide cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with regulatory submission processes for medical devices.
  • Familiarity with design verification testing methodologies.
  • Knowledge of security and confidentiality policies in biomedical applications.
