About the position

Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing quality healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities. The hospital has been recognized as a top hospital in South Carolina by the Carolina Center for Medical Excellence for its treatment of heart attack, heart failure, and pneumonia. The services provided at the hospital include emergency medical care, orthopedic surgeries, maternity, and behavioral health services. The Biomedical Engineering Technician I position is an entry-level role that operates under some supervision. The technician is responsible for performing evaluations, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance on medical devices used in patient care at assigned UHS facilities. The technician is expected to perform preventive maintenance (PM) or operational verification procedures (OVP) on 35% of the device types in inventory and can repair 35% of the device types unassisted. The focus of this role is to ensure the safest and best possible patient experience while delivering exceptional service that meets or exceeds all regulatory requirements and compliance. The technician will document and maintain records of all work activities in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and routinely perform corrective and preventive maintenance of devices, including all related follow-up communications. The role may require travel to other sites as directed and participation in an on-call schedule/rotation. The technician will also be expected to understand and properly operate test equipment required for the repair and maintenance of devices in the HTM Program, and perform other duties as assigned with a commitment to service excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Perform evaluations, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance on medical devices.

  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) or operational verification procedure (OVP) on 35% of the device types in inventory.
  • Repair 35% of the device types in inventory unassisted.
  • Routinely perform corrective and preventive maintenance of devices and all related follow-up communications.
  • Travel to other sites as directed/needed.
  • Understand and properly operate test equipment required for the repair and maintenance of devices in the HTM Program.
  • Participate in on-call schedule/rotation as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned/required with Service Excellence.

Requirements

  • Technical School/1 Year College required; Associate degree or professional certification preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year experience required; 1-3 years preferred.
