About the position

The Biostatistician II position at the Richard A. and Susan F. Smith Center for Outcomes Research focuses on conducting high-impact research in cardiovascular care. The role involves collaborating with clinician investigators and other team members to analyze diverse data sources, including large national registries and administrative claims data, to address critical issues in healthcare access, quality, and health equity. The Biostatistician II will engage in data management and analytic activities under the guidance of Dr. Rishi Wadhera, contributing to the center's mission of improving health outcomes through rigorous statistical analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the design, development, and maintenance of data collection instruments, databases, and procedure manuals.
  • Designs, implements, and performs data management and quality control procedures for routine and special projects.
  • Writes computer programs to combine data from separate computer files for comparison.
  • Supports the creation of applications in support of research projects.
  • Collaborates with program staff on the design and analysis of biostatistical aspects of research protocols.
  • Participates in the design of questionnaires and interview forms.
  • Analyzes data using univariate and multivariate analyses such as logistic regression and factor analysis.
  • Supports interpretation and assists in the creation of study results in collaboration with faculty members and other team members.
  • Provides tabular and graphic summaries of analyses for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics, Biostatistics, or related field required.
  • 3-5 years related work experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with software programs including SAS, Access, PowerPoint, Epi Info, and Excel.
  • Ability to conduct and interpret multivariable regression analysis.
  • Documented ability to manipulate complex, large databases including Medicare and other insurance claims data.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience with administrative (Medicare) claims data is preferred.
  • SAS Base and Advanced certification is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience working with SAS (Base, Stat, Macro, SQL) is preferred.
  • Domain knowledge in causal inference, longitudinal analysis, or weighting methods is preferred.
