About the position

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Boiler Manager at our Plywood facility in Taylorsville, MS. The Boiler Manager will be responsible for overseeing the Boiler/Utility department management and engineering, ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently. This role involves providing design and technical expertise to support capital investments up to $1 million in the boiler and utility department. The Boiler Manager will lead a team of employees in operations, maintenance, engineering, and safety while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. In this position, the Boiler Manager will assist in the creation of capital plans, identify investment costs, and develop tools to measure success and checkpoints. They will provide insights on prioritizing the overall capital investment plan, focusing on return on investment, savings, quality improvement, production output, and risk management. The Boiler Manager will also lead environmental compliance projects and ongoing boiler operation improvement initiatives related to the boilers and auxiliary systems, ensuring that company standards and expectations are met throughout project completion. As a subject matter expert, the Boiler Manager will provide guidance to plant teams, discuss progress with senior leadership, and present analytical data to validate project priorities and statuses. They will implement existing and new technologies to enhance processes, quality, and product yield, while also identifying necessary scope and deliverable changes to ensure project success. Daily oversight will include providing direct support to field teams, managing escalations, reporting on safety metrics, and adjusting plans as needed based on acquired knowledge across the plant. Vendor management is another key responsibility, which involves identifying and assessing services to align with Georgia-Pacific's Market Based Management® approach. The Boiler Manager will also serve as a technical coach to plant teams, influencing senior leadership to achieve the best business outcomes and promoting a strong safety commitment among project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Boiler/Utility department management and engineering.
  • Support capital investments up to $1 million in the boiler and utility department.
  • Assist in the creation of capital plans and identify investment costs.
  • Develop tools to measure success and checkpoints for capital investment plans.
  • Lead environmental compliance projects and ongoing boiler operation improvement projects.
  • Provide guidance to plant teams and discuss progress with Senior Leadership.
  • Present analytical data validating project priority and status.
  • Implement existing and new technology to enhance processes, quality, and product yield.
  • Manage escalations to resolution and report on safety successes and failures.
  • Provide direct support to field teams and assist in creating plan adjustments as needed.
  • Identify and assess vendor services for alignment with GP's Market Based Management® approach.
  • Serve as a technical coach to plant teams and influence senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in an industrial manufacturing or military environment.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in boiler or steam plant operations.
  • Thorough understanding of thermodynamics and combustion principles.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of heat transfer.
  • Proficient using Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
